About...the ToledoGuideThis guide is published for all those people who live in Toledo and think there's nothing to do here. It first appeared on the World Wide Web in December 1996 after a year of design and planning. In October, 1997, it was given a makeover by the managing editor, Bill Woodruff, who continues to develop the site.
GraphicsThe layout, with navigation buttons down the left side, was designed to give you a feeling of how big the guide is, where you're at in it, and quick access to any other section. When you go to one of the main topic pages, the background color will change and a menu of "subjects" will appear below the topic button. It's a lot like a pull-down menu which gives you better visual cues as you bounce around the pages. Also, using our "background-colored-cell" trick we've significantly improved the speed of the site by letting your browser create the navigation buttons. An added feature is that the button text will be colored differently for pages you've recently looked at.
Printingaka: why this page is not black...Light text on a dark background may look nice on screen, but won't print on some computer systems. Because this guide contains many schedules and addresses that you may want to print, the pages have been designed to print as well as look good on screen.
SoundHow can you tell what music sounds like without hearing it? This site is RealAudio enabled so you can listen to music from bands like the Beef Carvers. As the technology of streaming audio develops and improves, you can expect to hear more of what's happening all around town.Although the background music that was originally built in to the ToledoGuide has been quieted you can still visit this secret playground.
AnimationYou may notice animation on these pages. Some of it is multi-frame GIF89a graphics supported by the major browsers. If yours is capable of showing GIF Animation, the buttons below will be animated. You can follow the links to learn more about these browsers.
