What's new?
This is an ongoing record of the history of the ToledoGuide with the most recent changes listed first. If you're really bored, you can read back to the very beginning of time!
- 4/02 - Nothing. Enjoy the old stuff for a while.
- 9/99 - Became a Host Site for ValueClick banner links. These are top-notch advertisers I believe ToledoGuide readers will appreciate.
- 8/99 - Developed Six Million Dollar Band site
Became a Traffic Associate of Lycos to offer topic-related searches
- 7/99 - Became an associate of amazon.com to offer the best books, videos, music, and other fun stuff to the ToledoGuide visitors.
- 6/99 - Added info and maps to the Metroparks page. Added the Suggestion Box form. Explored the Net for new links.
- 5/99 - Hompage makeover... added a rotating schedule of events and the Toledo Highlights section.
Added ToledoGuide Web Design page.
Edited keywords for search engines on all pages.
- 4/99 - As of April 1st, Tantara Productions (Bill Woodruff) has purchased the ToledoGuide back from Kinetic Ink!
Added CHAT, advertising, sponsor logos on Site Map, many new links, Use Policy, new footers...
- 1/99 - 3/99 - Cleaning up the Entertainment and the Welcome sections. Considering a search engine just for the ToledoGuide. Kinetic Ink is going through some reorganization.
- 12/98 - More updates and additions to the Entertainment pages... including maps for local hot spots.
- 11/98 - Added the Guest Book just for fun and user comments.
- 7/98 - Enjoyed the summer.
- 4/98 - Continuing to seek out new links where noone has gone before.
- 3/98 - Added Backseat Fare site to the ToledoGuide.
Added Style Sheets for v4+ browsers
This month is dedicated to organizing links and adding descriptive content for links.
- 2/98 - New design... the core pages and navigation is complete. The task at hand is to bring content from the current site into the new layout and edit in new content. Whew! 5 a.m. and I can't stop. I must code. (o)(o)
- 1/98 - This site is begging for a make-over of its current contents. The new site navigation and graphics will be small in filesize -- built for speed (get yours and we'll race!) but must live up to Kinetic's "no ugly sites" standard. More elaborate graphics will be deeper in the site where users are more likely to "land" on a page.
- 12/97 - Business is booming and this community project is not getting proper attention. What do you expect for free? I am reminded with every emailed suggestion that people out there WANT THIS INFORMATION! We have a great deal of traffic through a site that is cluttered with construction. Ah, it reminds me of home.
- 12/97 - Moved the band Groovebone into the ToledoGuide [since removed]. This band's website is being managed by Kinetic Ink President, Jeff Hill.
- 11/97 - Larger plans for the ToledoGuide will make the current content an "entertainment" section of a much more complete guide of all Toledo business and a much broader range of topics.
- 10/1/97 - Kinetic Ink officially purchased the ToledoGuide.
- 7/5/97 - redesigned front door and edited text of welcome pages. (It's about time!)
- 6/97 - Bill Woodruff is one of the founding partners of the Kinetic Ink Internet Design Corporation which will continue sponsoring the ToledoGuide. As part of the agreement, Kinetic Ink will purchase the ToledoGuide and Mr. Woodruff will continue as the managing editor. Feel lucky?
- 1/97 to 7/97 - covert biz negotiations in a pack of wild geeks (myself included, guys).
- 1/8/97 - Put final touches (for now) on the menu links and page layouts. Changed background music to only play automatically on the top pages except for the "welcome" pages such as this one.
- 1/7/97 - Added the Uncle Sandwitch homepage hosted by ToledoGuide.
- 1/5/97 - Pages tested successfully in Netscape 3.0, Microsoft IExplorer, and CompuServe 3.0.1 all using Windows95
- test in AOL failed due to AOL traffic. Nice move, AOL.
- 1/4/97 - Special thanks to Mark Mashburn for mention on the Velvet Jones mailer and website!
- 1/3/97 - Sonified! [note: this has since been removed]
- 1/1/97 - Happy New Year! Added "alt" text descriptions to menus
- updated main help pages such as this one.
- 12/31/96 - Updated the beefcarvers homepage hosted by ToledoGuide.
- 12/25/96 - Added "front doors" introducing the guide and the beefcarvers pages.
- testing autoresponder... email autonews@toledoguide.com to test news.
- 12/18/96 - Southwind Enterprises Inc, virtual domain host, made room and we moved in!
- 12/11/96 - "TOLEDOGUIDE.COM" officially registered at InterNIC
- 6/95 - ToledoGuide concept began out of the needs of the local entertainment business and the general feeling in this city that nothing happens here. I will show you...
[1998 note] It's interesting how much the city's "self-image" has improved. Was it something the city government did, as they would have us believe, or was it the combined efforts of all the people living here to create a better place?
[1999 note] Toledo was named an All-American City in 1998!
- a few years ago - The Universe fell out of a passing truck and time began. (Hey! Prove me wrong.)
